Raj Reddy, winner of the ACM Turing Award (the highest international academic award in the computer field) visited HIT and made an academic report from November 2nd to 4th. He is an internationally renowned artificial intelligence (AI) expert, one of academicians of the American Academy of Engineering, academicians of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, foreign academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. During this period, Sun Dongsheng, deputy governor of Heilongjiang Province, met with Professor Raj Reedy. They exchanged their thoughts about the new directions on the global development trend and potential of computer science and AI, and explored how to combine AI new technologies with local development features and pool data resources so as to promote the rapid development of information technology and AI industry in Heilongjiang. Ren Nanqi and Xu Xiaofei, vice presidents of HIT and other representatives attended the meeting and symposium.
Professor Raj Reedy gave an academic report titled “Artificial Intelligence for the Innovation and Potential Development of New Industries” at the Conference Room 214, Activity Center, the First Campus of HIT on the morning of November 3. He introduced the profound development history of AI in a simple way easy for audiences to understand, and predicted the AI development trend that Cognition Amplifiers and Guardian Angels, two forms of AI to be reflected in the next few years, will be developed in different fields by researchers so as to allow them to live and work in a safer, more convenient and more efficient way. More than 200 teachers and students attended the report meeting.
Professor Raj Reedy had a discussion and exchange with over 20 teachers at the seminar with the focus of building a world-class computer science subject held on the afternoon of November 3. After listening to the introduction of Wang Yadong, Dean of the School of Computer Science, on the history and current status of the computer science of Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Raj Reedy shared his suggestion for the construction of world-class disciplines at Harbin Institute of Technology from four aspects, that is, "How to recruit high-level students" "How to attract world-class teachers" “How to build a special education The system” and "How to combine AI research with the social governance of the local region".
To strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, the School of Computer Science has implemented the “World-class Academic Masters Visit Program”, inviting Turing Award winners, academicians of the US Academy of Sciences/Engineering in Computer Science, ACM Fellows, and IEEE Fellows to pay for a visit to HIT in recent years. By means of delivering reports, having interviews with teachers and students, listening to subject development reports, establishing joint laboratories, etc., the international vision of the teachers and students of the college has enhanced, which prompts them to track the research frontiers of the world's top computer scientists. The School of Computer Science has also carried out a series of international cooperation and exchanges such as “International First-class Scholar Lecture/Teaching Program”, “International Top Academic Managers and Journal Editors' Access Program” and “International Young Scholars Introduction Program”, which has greatly promoted the pace for world-class construction of the college.
