On June 7, Harbin Institute of Technology ushered in its centennial founding anniversary. Xi Jinping, president of China, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, sent a congratulatory letter to Harbin Institute of Technology on its 100th founding anniversary. Meanwhile, President Xi extended greetings to faculty staff, students and alumni of HIT.
In his congratulatory letter, President Xi pointed out that Harbin Institute of Technology is a university with a long history. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, HIT has taken root in the Northeast China, made patriotic contributions, and worked hard to develop a large number of national instruments, trained a large number of outstanding talents, and made important contributions to the CPC and the people.
On the eve of the centennial anniversary, Sun Chunlan and Liu He, members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premiers of the State Council, respectively expressed their concern to HIT. Zhang Chunxian and Ji Bingxuan, vice chairmans of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress, and Wang Yong, State Councilor, sent letters and phone calls to congratulate the centennial anniversary. Li Changchun, Zhang Gaoli, Wang Zhaoguo, Song Jian and Li Jinnai have also sent letters and phone calls to congratulate the 100th anniversary.
On June 7, the campus of HIT was full of festival atmosphere. Overlooking the square of the main building of HIT, the overall shape of the emblem of HIT was presented. The banners of HIT, of all schools, and of all alumni associations on both sides of the venue were fluttering in the wind. At 9 a.m., the 100th anniversary of HIT was held in the main building square. Teachers and students, alumni at home and abroad and people from all walks of life who are concerned about the development of HIT gathered on the internet to participate in the grand event and witness the centennial glory of HIT. The ceremony was broadcasted live through the People’s Daily client, , Xuexi.cn, CCTV video, Zaker client, official Bilibili account and official Tik Tok account.

In this challenging time for instructors and learners, HIT has also invested in its core academic enterprise and has been recognized by the province’s bureau of education affairs for providing students with outstanding online learning structures. Through these actions, HIT has shown how much higher education institutions can contribute to societal and human well being,and those were just the latest examples for the university’s 100 year history. In her speech, Miao Yue, a student representative, a member of Lilac Micro Nano Satellite Team and a 2016 doctoral student of the School of Astronautics, shared the story of “making the dream fly to the sky” from coming to HIT with a dream of aerospace 10 years ago, to joining the Lilac Micro Nano Satellite Team, and then becoming the head of Lilac-1 and Lilac-2 orbital subsystem.
