Academician Tan was honored for fighting COVID-19

Academician Tan has long been dedicated to the research of ultra-precision measurement technology and instrument engineering in high-end equipment manufacturing. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, he actively helped fight the epidemic with scientific research, backing the support of the major epidemic prevention and emergency projects of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He was a major figure to set up a joint development team for precision instruments and life sciences, which relies on the two advantageous disciplines of precision instruments and life sciences of HITin conjunction with the advantageous forces of domestic 3A hospitals. In this case,he continued to tackle key problems in an innovative way. For example, this team has quickly completed the principle prototype, engineering prototype and high-sensitivity COVID-19 detection kit as well as 3 gene targets of the integrated automatic detection instrument for pathogenic microorganism nucleic acid. Also, he led the team to adopt real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR, the golden method for COVID-19 detection, which has realized full automation, integration, high sensitivity and high throughputin line with high accuracy. So far, we have the capability to solve the problem of early quantitative accurate screening and diagnosis of COVID-19 patients. The instrument also has advanced biosafety design and does not need P2 laboratory. It is especially suitable for on-site rapid batch screening and testing in airports, customs, stations, schools and other places. According to the authoritative test report of China Institute of Metrology, the automatic detection instrument has high accuracy, fast detection speed, batch detection and advanced method, reaching the best level in many technical indexes such as accuracy and speed. Academician Tan will lead the team to make continuous breakthroughs in the frontier of medical workers, helping the national epidemic scientific and accurate prevention and control and boost high-end medical equipment industry in Heilongjiang Province.
