HIT News (JIA CHuyuan / text) On the afternoon of Nov 3, the presentation ceremony of The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize, one of China's most prestigious science awards, was held in Beijing. Dr.Feng Jicai from the School of Materials Science and Engineering won this year's HLHL Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award.
Prof. Feng Jicai is currently the chairman of the Welding Branch of China Mechanical Engineering Society. He is an expert mainly engaged in basic research on welding metallurgy application of new materials and dissimilar materials. He once systematically revealed the essential characteristics of brazing, diffusion welding, electron beam welding and underwater welding processes, and had made important scientific research achievements in enhancing interface wetting, microstructure and property regulation, and joint stress relief, with outstanding theoretical and technological innovations. On cultivating talents, he teaches a multiple of undergraduate and graduate students and gets great feedback. In academic field, he undertakes more than 20 national scientific research projects such as the National 863 and 973 Program, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and the Cross-Century Talent Fund of the Ministry of Education. Also, he has published more than 200 high-level academic papers, published 7 teaching materials and works and authorized more than 100 national invention patents. He led the team to provide theoretical support and key technologies for the development of important components in China's aerospace, marine and nuclear power engineering, and thus making him win the second prize of the National Natural Science Award and second prize of the National Technological Invention Award.
The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation is funded by Hong Kong patriotic financiers He Shanheng and Liang Qiuju, He Tian and Li Guowei in 1994 to reward outstanding Chinese scientists and serve the modernization of the country. The number of awards nationwide is about 50 each year. In 2020, a total of 52 Chinese scientists are granted the HLHL Foundation Prize. Among them, respiratory expert Zhong Nanshan and archaeologist Fan Jinshi won the Science and Technology Achievement Award, 30 other scientists got the Science and Technology Progress Award and 20 other ones won the Science and Technology Innovation Award.
