June 11, the National Space Administration released the first batch of scientific images of the landing of Tianwen 1 on Mars. Among them are the motifs of "Bing Dwen Dwen", the mascot of 2022 Winter Olympic Games, and "Shuey Rhon Rhon", the mascot of Winter Paralympic Games, expressing the pursuit of " Faster, Higher, Stronger" and the spirit of continuous exploration, the landing platform. The motifs of mascots on the landing used a technique initially developed by the team of the Prof. Wu Xiaohong from the School of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, HIT, who was also the developer of the five-star red flag on the Tianwen-1 probe.
Prof. Wu Xiaohong's team conducted a series of scientific research in order to both fully display the flowing lines of "Bing Dwen Dwen", the red Chinese lanterns of "Snow Rong Rong" and the Chinese calligraphy art of "Winter Dream and Leap" within the small size of 18 cm × 10 cm, and to ensure these dynamic patterns enduring the extreme environment of irradiation, temperature difference between day and night, light, etc. unique to Mars. They developed a special functional material that combines the properties of anti-irradiation, low volatility and resistance to both extremely high and low temperature alternation. Then the material was overprinted on the aluminum plate via special processing. The novel technique was applied to the "Bing Dwen Dwen" and "Snow Rong Rong" mascot pattern products, which were installed in the landing platform of Tianwen-1.
