On December 20th, 2021, the 2021 Heilongjiang Science and Technology Award was announced. HIT professor, Qin Yukun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, won the highest Science and Technology Award of Heilongjiang Province. And 19 projects led by HIT won the first prize of the award.

Academician Qin Yukun is the pioneer and founder of China's thermal engineering field. He has been serving China's coal-based energy system and devoting himself to the technical and engineering research on clean, efficient utilization of coal. He has presided over the completion of a number of national and provincial advanced coal combustion technology projects, invented a series of “air surrounding fuel” thick and thin pulverized coal combustion technology and equipment for large-scale coal-fired power stations, safe and low-pollutant pulverized coal combustion technology and equipment, etc. The technical achievements have reached the international leading level and made outstanding contributions to the safe, efficient and clean utilization of coal in China. In recent years, facing the development and utilization of coal resources in the new era, Academician Qin Yukun has led young teachers to explore new directions and effectively assisted the economic and technological development of Heilongjiang Province.

According to the Science and Technology Award Measures of Heilongjiang Province, and with the approval of the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province, it was decided to award Academician Qin Yukun the Highest Science and Technology Award of Heilongjiang Province in 2021; 244 nominated projects were awarded Science and Technology Award of Heilongjiang Province in 2021, including 40 first prizes, 108 second prizes and 96 third prizes.
