Prof. ZHOU Yu finished his bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctoral degree in metal materials and hot processing at Harbin Institute of Technology. His Ph.D. was jointly supervised by Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering in Tokyo University, Japan. Before he was appointed as the President of Harbin Institute of Technology in June 2014, he served as the head of Teaching and Research Office of Department of Metal Materials and Hot Processing, Dean of School of Material Sciences and Engineering, Assistant President, and Vice President. He has management experience in discipline and curriculum development, graduate and undergraduate education.

Prof. ZHOU Yu has been working on the research and education onceramic transformation and toughening, thermo shock resistance and ablation resistance of ceramic composite materials and their application in space craft thermo insulating components for many years. Prof. ZHOU has won “China Award for Young Scientists”. He was elected the Academician of China Academy of Engineering in 2009, and the Academician of the World Academy of Ceramics in 2012. Prof. ZHOU has published more than 380 papers indexed by SCI with more than 4000 citations.
