Hosted by HIT, the first Chinese College Students’ Innovational Design Competition of Advanced Material was held at HIT. 325 innovational designs from universities including: the University of California-San Diego, the University of Manchester, National Taiwan University, Tsinghua University, and Peking University participated in the competition. 180 of the designs moved on to the final. Students from HIT received one special award, six first prizes, six second prizes, and three third prizes. Professor FEI Weidong from the School of Material Science And Engineering at HIT received the award for excellent professor. HIT received the prize for excellent organization. The vice chair of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People Republic of China Personnel and Education Department, GAO Dongsheng, former vice chair of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People Republic of China Material and Industry Department, ZHANG Wei, and the president of HIT, ZHOU Yu attended the opening ceremony

The Chinese College Students’ Innovational Design Competition of Advanced Material is the one of the theme activities for the 3rd China International Advanced Materials Industry Exposition. The competition was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Heilongjiang Province, supported by the Ministry of Education Materials Specialty Teaching Guidance Committee, sponsored by Huawei and Harbin Venture Capital Group Co.,Ltd, and planned by the Metals Society of Heilongjiang Province. Vice Chair of the Committee of Industryand Information Technology of Heilongjiang Province, LIU Aili, the leader of Discipline Inspection Groups, WANG Tao, the Vice Chair of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, YIN Xiaolan, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China Personnel and Education Department, XING Tao, Vice President of HIT, HAN Jiecai, the leader and specialist of the Metals Society of Heilongjiang Province, Huawei, and the Harbin Venture Capital Group Co.,Ltd participated in the opening and closing ceremonies.

Vice President of Undergraduate Affairs of HIT, ZHOU Yu, said in his speech that the university is a staging area for scientific results and development of innovative personnel. Universities take great responsibility in educating innovative personnel, and propagating research and technologies. The main job for a university is to educate the best and most innovative personnel by inspiring and cultivating individual ideas and practical abilities. The Chinese College Students’ Innovational Design Competition of Advanced Material not only provided a stage for young students to show their innovative ideas and results, but also provided a platform for communicating experiences in how to educate innovative personnel between universities, and exchange ideas in innovative education. ZHOU expressed hope that every student who participated in the competition would seize the opportunity and gain some benefit.

The theme of the competition was “New material, New life, New equipment, New results”. The result of the competition was the latest innovative designs in the field of material, including metal, inorganic metal, function, high – polymer materials, material process techniques, equipment and device technology and other areas. The competition gave six grand prizes, 29 first prizes, 52 second prizes, 68 third prizes, 18 winning prizes, 6 excellent teacher prizes, and 11 excellent organization prizes. The results of the competition were showcased in the 3rd China International Advanced Materials Industry Exposition, where more than 70 projects reached agreements with companies.
