On June 28, the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) held an academic forum on future cities and sustainable development, drawing together leading experts, scholars, and alumni in civil engineering and urban construction to discuss the challenges and opportunities of urban futures.
Vice President Fan Feng delivered opening remarks, thanking alumni for their continued support. He emphasized the importance of the forum as a platform for collaborative exploration into China's urban development, urging participants to contribute innovative theories and methods that support interdisciplinary integration and technological self-reliance.
Distinguished speakers included Du Xiuli, former vice president of Beijing University of Technology, Gao Zongyu, chief scientist at China Railway Group Limited, Zhang Linwei, president of the China Urban Water Association, and Feng Guohui, former vice president of Shenyang Jianzhu University.
Their presentations covered a broad spectrum of topics: seismic analysis and vibration control in major infrastructure, innovation in intelligent and green bridge engineering, challenges and strategies in urban water management, and key technologies for low-carbon building in cold regions.
The forum offered a valuable exchange of forward-looking ideas and practical strategies, contributing fresh perspectives to the global conversation on urban sustainability and innovation.
