The China Graduate Advisor Development Seminar and the first session of the 2025 National Graduate Advisor Training Program, co-hosted by the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center and the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), were held on June 12-13.
During the events, the China Graduate Advisor Development Community was established. The founding council includes 19 universities, among them are HIT, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Beihang University.
Parallel forums explored key topics such as academic ethics, enterprise mentor responsibilities, integration of industry and education, and institutional support for advisor development. Experts and scholars exchanged ideas on how to strengthen innovation-driven graduate education.
Chen Jie, chair of the HIT Council, said that over the past five years, the university has reformed its postgraduate education system to focus on tailored training, international collaboration, and science-based evaluation mechanisms. He called for deeper collaboration among academia, industry, government, and society to drive the advancement of graduate education and contribute to China's development as a global education power.
HIT President Han Jiecai said that the seminar's goal was to unite attendees in promoting the development of graduate advisor teams and reforming postgraduate training models. He stated that HIT would continue working with peer institutions and leading enterprises to explore new approaches to cultivating outstanding engineers and advancing national education strategies.
Vice President Shen Yi delivered a keynote speech outlining HIT's progress in building a graduate advisor development center and its innovative training models.
