The 19th National Conference on Spatial Structure Technology, hosted by the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), was recently held in Harbin.
Over 450 representatives from universities, research institutes, and design and construction organizations across China attended the event. HIT Vice President Fan Feng delivered the opening speech.
At the main forum, 27 keynote presentations were delivered, focusing on topics such as the development of China's spatial structure standard system, the performance enhancement of large-span structures, and recent progress in high-strength steel tie rods and the seismic performance of flexible support systems. A salon session on artificial intelligence and spatial structures was also held.
Three parallel sessions on grid, cable, and membrane structures featured 57 reports, covering advances in theory, computational analysis, testing, design, fabrication, and installation of spatial structures.
The conference also included a presentation of the Shen Shizhao Elite Award in Spatial Structures. Funded by Academician Shen Shizhao and part of the HIT Education Development Foundation's Shizhao Fund, the award honors outstanding young scholars in the field.
Six experts, including HIT professors Zhi Xudong and Qian Hongliang, received the award, presented by Shen Shizhao and Fan Feng.
After the conference, participants visited the renovation project of the Harbin International Convention and Sports Center and the major national scientific instrument facility for the comprehensive simulation of wind-rain-thermal-snow effects on large-span spatial structures.
