The Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has secured first place in the individual team ranking at the 15th National Zhou Peiyuan Competition on Mechanics.
Wen Fanghe, a 2023 undergraduate from HIT's School of Future Technology, won the national top prize, ranking first in the country. Meanwhile, 23 HIT students received first prizes and 41 won second prizes, ranking HIT top among all participating universities in the individual competition.
The biennial competition is approved by the Ministry of Education and co-hosted by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Zhou Peiyuan Foundation. It is China's largest and most influential university-level mechanics contest.
It tests students' mastery of fundamental concepts and their ability to apply them in solving complex problems. It aims to enhance mechanics education, spark student interest, and cultivate innovation and problem-solving skills.
This year's individual competition drew 30,591 participants from over 500 universities across 30 regions. Only five top prizes were awarded, alongside 166 first prizes and 311 second prizes.
Since 2013, HIT students have won four top prizes, 57 first prizes, and 82 second prizes, ranking them among the best in the nation.
Based on individual scores, HIT has qualified to independently compete in three group events: Theoretical Design & Operation, Basic Mechanics Experiment, and Orbital Design. The team competition will take place this July at the National University of Defense Technology and Southeast University.
