The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) announced the list of 70 high-starting-point new journals selected for phase II of the 2025 China's Scientific, Technical and Medical Journals (STM Journals) Excellence Action Plan on Dec 5.
Space Energy and Environment and Intelligent Computing for Engineering, both journals hosted by the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), as well as Advances in Astronautics, co-hosted by the Chinese Society of Astronautics and HIT, were included.
Along with the previous four English journals – International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials in 2022, Electron and SmartBot in 2023, and Advanced Materials Jointing in 2024 – HIT now has a total of seven journals selected for the high-starting-point new journal project.

Space Energy and Environment is scheduled to launch in 2026, with HIT Vice President Shuai Yong and Academician Yu Dengyun from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) as chief editors, and Gao Jianmin, dean of HIT's School of Energy, as the executive editor. The editorial board comprises five Chinese academicians and 51 high-level experts and scholars from both China and abroad. The journal will focus on high-quality academic achievements in the "space + energy" field, providing an international academic exchange platform.

Intelligent Computing for Engineering is also set to launch in 2026, with Academician Li Hui from HIT as the chief editor. The editorial board comprises over 90 internationally renowned experts and scholars, including five Chinese and eight foreign academicians. The journal will focus on cutting-edge results in artificial intelligence, computational science, and engineering.

Advances in Astronautics was established in 2018, with Academician Wang Wei from CASC and HIT President Han Jiecai, as chief editors. Academician Hou Xiao serves as the executive editor, with Academician Yu Dengyun and others as associate editors, and over 70 renowned experts in the field as members of the editorial board. The journal focuses on innovative, forward-looking research in astronautics.

Since the establishment of the journal center, HIT has had a total of nine single journals and seven journals included in related projects of the CAST's Excellence Action Plan.
China's Scientific, Technical, and Medical Journals (STM Journals) Excellence Action Plan is an important project, jointly organized by seven ministries – including CAST – to promote the high-quality development of scientific and technological journals in China. The High-Starting-Point New Journal Project supports newly established English-language journals that represent the forefront of disciplinary development and have significant growth potential.
