The Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and the people's government of Shijingshan district, Beijing, signed a cooperation agreement on Dec 15 to jointly establish the Harbin Institute of Technology Beijing Research Institute.

In his speech, Shijingshan District Party Secretary Chang Wei emphasized the importance Shijingshan district places on the role of universities and research institutes in driving high-quality regional economic development. He noted that HIT's academic strengths align with the district's industrial development goals. He expressed hope that both parties would be guided by national strategic needs and Beijing's high-quality development requirements to develop the research institute, thereby aiding both regional industrial upgrades and the university's growth.

In his address, HIT Party Secretary Chen Jie stated that the collaboration between HIT and Shijingshan district to establish the research institute is a significant step in implementing the spirit of the 20th Central Committee's Fourth Plenary Session and advancing education, science, and talent development. HIT is committed to fully supporting the development of the research institute and hopes to make it a model of university-local cooperation.

Executive Deputy District Mayor Wang Qizhi and HIT Vice-President Liu Ting signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties. According to the agreement, HIT and Shijingshan district will establish a long-term mechanism for university-local cooperation, relying on the research institute's functions in international exchange and cooperation to support the construction of Beijing National Center for Science and Technological Innovation, and Beijing's high-quality development.
