Meet Zhang Sizhu, one of the first undergraduates of the International Organizations and Global Governance Program (Class of 2022) at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), who is turning her global vision into action.
Driven by her passion for international affairs, Zhang also pursued a minor in International Economics and Trade. As part of the China National University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Program, she led a project analyzing how the 2025 Asian Winter Games could boost Heilongjiang's economic development. She conducted surveys, interviewed Olympic champions, government officials, and international students, and produced a 40,000-word research report based on over 3,000 responses. The project won the national second prize in the China College Student Market Research and Analysis Competition.
With support from HIT, Zhang joined programs such as the Cambridge University Summer Exchange and the United Nations Immersion Programme. At Cambridge, she engaged with peers from around the world and realized that true global governance begins with mutual understanding. In Geneva and The Hague, she visited institutions including the UN Office at Geneva and the International Court of Justice, where she held in-depth discussions with officials. Her final presentation – integrating insights on global climate governance – earned her the Best Individual award and a recommendation letter.
"Stay focused on your goals and don't set limits for yourself." At HIT, Zhang is steadily growing into a young professional with a solid academic foundation, strong cross-cultural communication skills, and a global mindset.
