The 211st Forum on Frontiers of Science and Technologyof the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academic Divisions – "Frontier and Application of Materials Science" – was held in Harbinon May 16, hosted by the CAS Academic Divisions and co-hosted by the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT).
The forum brought together over 160 participants, including 35 academicians, 78 leading national-level and young talents – top experts and scholars in materials science from across China – as well as representatives from the CAS Academic Divisions, the editorial board of Science China: Technological Sciences, the Science China Press, and faculty from relevant universities and HIT.

Yang Wei, director of the CAS Academic Divisions, stated in his address that the forum gathered experts and scholars from frontier fields to discuss the latest advances in materials science, assess development strengths and existing weaknesses, and explore cutting-edge scientific issues, major national strategic needs, and future directions. He emphasized that the forum serves as a bridge for dialogue among scientific and technological talent in the materials field, jointly contributing to the enhancement of China's innovation capacity and the higher-quality development of materials science in China.

Yang Shupeng, vice-mayor of the Harbin municipal people's government, expressed hope that the academicians and experts present would deepen exchanges with local universities, research institutes, and enterprises, promote the local commercializationof more original achievements in Heilongjiang, and inject momentum into the comprehensive revitalization of Northeast China and the high-quality development of key industrial chains.

Chen Jie, secretary of the HIT Party Committee, said that HIT looks forward to using the forum as an opportunity to deepen exchanges and cooperation with colleagues in academia, jointly promote innovative development in materials science in China, and contribute wisdom and strength to achieving high-level self-reliance in science and technology and to the great cause of building a strong nation and achievingnational rejuvenation.
