The 10th China-Russia Roundtable on New Technology R&D, Applied Science Cooperation, and Talent Cultivation was held from May 17 to 19 at the International Campus of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT).
The event was co-hosted by China's Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and co-organized by HIT, the Department of Science and Technology of Heilongjiang Province, and Russia's International Union of Instrument Manufacturing and Information and Telecommunications.
Zhu Xuehua, director-general of the Ministry of Science and Technology's Department of International Cooperation; Konstantin Mogilevsky, deputy minister of Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation; Cong Li, vice-governor of the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province; and Han Jiecai, president of HIT, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Zhu stated that the Chinese scientific community would uphold the principles of openness, inclusiveness, and mutual benefit, deepen scientific and technological exchanges and talent cooperation, share achievements in innovation, and promote coordinated development. Harbin serves as an important hub of Northeast China's old industrial base, bearing profound historical significance for the coordinated development of neighboring China-Russia regions. This gathering of representatives from the scientific and educational communities of both countries to discuss cooperation and talent cultivation carries far-reaching strategic significance.

Mogilevsky noted that, in recent years, cooperation between Russia and China in basic and applied science research has continued to expand, the number of joint research projects has steadily increased, and collaboration between research institutions of both countries has deepened. The two sides have advanced cooperation on the construction and development of large scientific facilities under the agreement between the two countries' ministries of education. During this conference, representatives from top universities, research centers, and innovative enterprises have gathered to focus on discussing cooperation in talent cultivation.

Cong stated that this conference aims to deepen exchanges and mutual learning in scientific and technological innovation, and to explore new ideas, models, and pathways for normalized, in-depth, and pragmatic cooperation between the two sides. She expressed hope that this conference would serve as a new starting point to further consolidate China-Russia mutual trust, build consensus on cooperation, uphold the principle of mutual benefit, deepen engagement in science and innovation, facilitate talent exchange channels, and accelerate the transformation of research outcomes.

Han stated that HIT has established long-term and stable cooperative relationships with many top Russian universities and research institutions, yielding fruitful results. The topics set for this conference align with the direction of scientific and technological innovation in both countries and address the practical needs of industrial upgrading and regional coordinated development. He hoped that this conference would serve as an opportunity to spark ideas through in-depth exchanges, build consensus on cooperation, and achieve more outcomes in the joint construction of research platforms, collaborative breakthroughs in core technologies, transformation of innovative achievements, and joint talent cultivation.

Experts from universities and research institutions, and enterprise representatives from both countries, conducted exchanges, discussions, and thematic matchmaking sessions on frontier fields and innovative cooperation.
Professors Guo Anxin from HIT's School of Civil Engineering and Hu Ying from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine also delivered keynote reports at the conference.
