The Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) held the inauguration ceremony of the HIT emlyon Data Science School alongside a welcome meeting for incoming students on Aug 29.
Xu Zhenyu, secretary of the leading Party members group and director of the Education Department of Heilongjiang Province; Han Jiecai, president of HIT; Shuai Yong, vice-president of HIT; Isabelle Huault, president and chair of the board of directors of emlyon business school; and Florencio Travieso, vice-president of emlyon business school, delivered remarks respectively.

Xu noted that HIT and emlyon business school have joined forces to carry out cooperation in response to the global transformation of the digital industry, national strategic needs, and the realities of vitalization and development in Heilongjiang, representing a leap forward in HIT's educational cooperation with Europe.
The Education Department of Heilongjiang Province will support the school's high-quality, connotative development with concrete measures, and he expressed the hope that the school, drawing on the strengths of both universities, will build new paradigms of interdisciplinary collaboration, create new models of talent cultivation, unlock new momentum for industrial vitalization, and strive to become a benchmark for high-level Sino-foreign cooperative education.

Han stated that HIT and emlyon business school have a solid foundation for cooperation and complementary academic strengths. He expressed the hope that the school will leverage the dual advantages of HIT in engineering and technology and emlyon business school in management sciences, focus on the interdisciplinary convergence of data science and artificial intelligence, drive the development of new humanities empowered by digital intelligence, plan its external expansion systematically, align with industrial development needs, cultivate outstanding future leaders, and jointly build the school into a benchmark program for China-France educational cooperation.

Huault said that the establishment of the HIT emlyon Data Science School marks an important milestone in the cooperation between the two institutions. Outstanding faculty teams from both universities, together with industry experts, will jointly participate in teaching, covering data science, computer science, business administration, and other fields. She expressed the hope that students will grow into professionals such as data analysts, data scientists, data engineers, data architects, and business analysts, contributing the strength of a new generation of young people to the deep integration of global technology and business.

Shuai and Travieso jointly presented letters of appointment to the members of the Strategic Advisory Committee of the HIT emlyon Data Science School. The committee brings together senior experts and scholars from domestic and international universities and industry, who will draw on their expertise to offer counsel and intellectual support for the school's development, data science discipline building, talent cultivation, and international exchanges and cooperation, rallying industry-education forces for the school's high-quality development.

At the welcome meeting, Valeriya Gribova, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and president of the Russian Association for Artificial Intelligence, delivered an academic enlightenment lecture titled Youth Setting Sail: Exploring Science.

The ceremony was accompanied by a symposium of the Strategic Advisory Committee. Focusing on cutting-edge trends in the global digital intelligence field and with the core goal of building a world-class data science discipline by 2035, committee members conducted in-depth discussions on three dimensions: innovation in talent cultivation systems, deep integration of industry and education for collaborative cultivation, and planning for the school's high-quality development.
