Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) held the Frontiers and Prospects of Contemporary Mathematics Ⅱ from Aug 26 to 27.
The event marked the 10th anniversary of the establishment of HIT's Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics and the 30th anniversary of the inaugural Mathematics Youth Fund Exchange Conference of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Themed "Advancing the Frontiers of Mathematics, Driving Interdisciplinary Innovation, and Envisioning the Future of Mathematics", the conference brought together nearly 20 academicians and nearly 200 mathematics experts and scholars from across China.
Academician Tian Gang, chair of the Academic Committee of HIT's Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics and head of the Academic Leadership Group of the Tianyuan Fund for Mathematics of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; Academician Zhang Weiping, vice-chairman of the Chinese Mathematical Society; Academician Bao Gang, president of the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics; Academician Zhang Ping, director of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Academician Liu Ruochuan, dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University; and Liu Jian, vice-president of HIT, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. Experts and scholars also attended the conference activities.

The conference featured two parallel sessions: a symposium on discipline development hosted by the Academic Committee of HIT's Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics and a symposium marking the 30th anniversary of the Mathematics Youth Fund Exchange Conference of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Xu Quanhua, director of the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, presented an overview of the institute's development. Professor Xiong Xiao and Professor Fang Jian gave academic presentations and took part in discussions, while Professor Lai Xudong and Associate Professor Wei Xiaoli gave presentations as young scholars.
The academicians, experts, and scholars in attendance offered constructive suggestions for the development of the institute's disciplines and discussed frontier areas of basic mathematical research, the development of young mathematical talent, and greater integration across disciplines.
